Against the Flow
An eastbound intermodel crosses the Skykomish River on its attack of the long grade towards the summit of Steven's Pass. This bridge was originally built in 1892 and was located in the town of Index, 7 miles up stream. In 1962, as part of a Great Northern realignment project between Gold bar and Index, this truss span was moved and reassembled here to allow the line to switch sides of the river.
